To help us all conquer the event, we have designed a 16-week strength and conditioning program.
This scientifically sound, highly tailored program is aimed at runners like you and us.
What's more, you can jump onboard at any point during your training. It's never too late to build strength!
To guide you through this journey, we are utilising our choice of intuitive app. Here you will gain access to the program, packed with detailed strength exercises, set and rep guides, and step-by-step video tutorials to help you master every move.
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT
Strength training is of significant importance for runners, as it contributes to multiple aspects of their performance and overall health. An increase in running performance and economy, as noted by research conducted by Blagrove (2017), Yamamoto (2008), and Karsten (2016), signifies a tangible improvement in efficiency. Furthermore, a systematic review by Blagrove et al. (2018), encompassing 24 studies, revealed that strength training improved running economy by 2-8% and time trial performance by 2-5%.
Runners often express concern about gaining excessive muscle mass through strength training, potentially hindering their performance. However, evidence suggests that these fears are largely unfounded. In fact, 18 out of the aforementioned studies found no change in body mass resulting from strength training, demonstrating that body composition is generally unaffected in runners who engage in such activities (Blagrove, 2017).
In addition to performance benefits, strength training also plays a pivotal role in injury prevention for runners. According to a study by Lauerson (2013), the incorporation of strength training routines can reduce the risk of overuse injuries by up to 50%. Therefore, runners should consider integrating strength training into their regular training regimen for improved performance and injury prevention.
The bottom line - strength training will improve your running performance and help to reduce injury.

What if you are currently injured?
This program has been designed for runners who are NOT injured and are otherwise fit and well. If you are suffering from an injury we suggest that you do not start this program and you make an appointment with one of our incredible running physiotherapists who can diagnose your injury and come up with a plan to get you back to your best.
What if you join this program late?
Not to worry - you can join this program at any time. You will start at week one and therefore you can start whenever you like.
What if you are wanting a more specific program to you?
If you are looking for a more individualised program then we suggest booking an appointment with one of our incredible team. We can then create a program that is individual to you and your running history, goals and injury history. Simply book your appointment either in clinic or online
